Experience and Qualifications
I am an Accredited and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have a Masters Degree. I have a rich and varied working experience which includes counselling for many years for the NHS, at a top London University, in Private Practice and in a Bereavement Agency. The issues my clients presented with included addiction, abuse, self-harm, depression, bereavement, anxiety, difficult relationships, chronic pain, illness and associated feelings, low self esteem, trauma and suicidal thoughts and intentions, to name but a few.
In my work with the NHS I counsel adults from different cultures and backgrounds and of all ages. I have worked for Lambeth IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) and now I am working for Brent IAPT. I am based at a GP Surgery.
I provided counselling at the University of Roehampton for three years, mainly to Young Adults and mature students. Time at university can be very challenging – academic and peer pressures can trigger many different feelings such as isolation, depression and anxiety. Counselling made a big difference to these students’ lives, who felt emotionally supported, became enabled to make significant decisions and found effective coping mechanisms.
In my work for Place2Be I offered Play Therapy to Primary School age children. This work taught me the power of artistic expression, which for some clients is an ideal medium to express their feelings and inner turmoil.
I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative) and completed an Introductory Imago Couple Counselling Course, an Introductory Transactional Analysis Course at Metanoia, a Compassion Focused CBT training and PTSD Training at Reading University.
I also have a BA and a MA in Languages, Literatures and Translation and Interpreting.
